10th REDFIN Reunion
Norfolk, Virginia
October 11 – 14, 2007

This was the fourth time we had our reunion in Norfolk at the Lake Wright.  I will have to say that we sure missed having Donna Faison handling everything for us.

We used the Dominion Hall for all our events including the two Buffet Dinners.  And the food was very good and there was plenty of it.  The Pizza Party was held on Thursday after registration.  Everyone did enjoy the full buffet breakfast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

We had a total of 32 Crewmen to attend with their guests for a total of 64.  We did have many last minute cancellations due to health reasons of various kinds.  For the first time Ken Small could attend as a guest instead of working the reunion.

On Friday the REDFIN gang split up with some going to Colonial Williamsburg some going to the Nauticus Museum and shopping.

On Friday after our dinner, Tom Herrin and Tom Cullen of Newport News Ship Building & Dry Dock Company gave a presentation and slide show on how the modern day submarines are constructed.

On Saturday after breakfast many went to the Sub Base for a tour of the submarines USS BOISE (SSN-764) or USS JACKSONVILLE (SSN-699).  As before, their REDFIN guests were made right at home on both submarines.  Of coarse Carole and Judy had a date with Scooby Doo.

After our Buffet Dinner, Rick Mitchell and Smoot Car-Mitchell, two sons of Forrest Mitchell, presented a slide show of the many pictures that were taken between the REDFIN’S 6th and 7th War Patrols.  Forrest Mitchell put REDFIN in Commission on August 31, 1943, rode her for all seven War Patrols and put her out of Commission.  He served as Executive Officer on the 6th and 7th War Patrols.

The Chinese Auction was held and we had a record number of articles to be auctioned off.

If the Good Lord is willing we will have the next reunion in 2008.  The committee would like to thank all of you that were able to attend and hope to see everyone next year.
